When is a U.S. state like a European country? Perhaps when it comes to understanding and transforming computing education.  

Mark Guzdial, one of the ECEP PI’s, recently spoke at a session “Computing — a 21st Century Literacy” at the 2014 Euroscience Open Forum in Copenhagen (see http://esof2014.org/programme-1).  Mark talked about the research challenges of making computing part of high schools in the United States, and he touched on the work of ECEP in developing models of how individual states make computing education policy.  Surprising to him, that part of his talk received the most interest.  As one European Union official said, the differences in how US states make education policy has similarities to the diverse range of different EU nations education policies.  The contributions of our work in ECEP may go beyond just the US context.
